AN ENTIRE COMMUNITY COMES TOGETHER IN THE STREETS OF QUEBEC CITY
A sold-out edition and historic marathon performances

Record participation and historic performances marked the 27th edition of the Beneva Quebec City Marathon presented by Brunet, which concluded today after welcoming more than 20,000 runners and walkers in a sold-out event. In the Beneva 42.2K powered by AWS, Jonathan Tedeschi set the fastest men’s time in the event’s history, while Je Cours Qc ambassador Caroline Pomerleau established a new women’s record on the current course, in place since 2022. Under ideal weather conditions, participants took part in the five races on the program: the 2K Kid’s Run, the 5K Beneva Health, the 10K Sports Experts, the 21.1K Shop Santé presented by WKND 91.9, and the Beneva 42.2K powered by AWS.

A Community-Driven Edition

Runners, volunteers, families and supporters gathered in the heart of Quebec City to experience the Beneva Quebec City Marathon presented by Brunet. This unprecedented turnout reflects the enthusiasm surrounding the event, which once again brought an entire community together around running and personal achievement.

“Each year, the Beneva Quebec City Marathon presented by Brunet reminds us of the incredible power of running to bring people together. Seeing thousands of participants, volunteers, partners and spectators energize Quebec City is a tremendous source of pride for our entire team. This record-setting edition, with more than 20,000 runners and walkers, demonstrates not only the growing popularity of our event, but also the reach it continues to build here and beyond. We are extremely grateful to everyone who contributes to its success and, above all, very excited about what lies ahead. Our ambitions are high: to continue innovating, enhancing the participant experience and growing the Beneva Quebec City Marathon presented by Brunet so that it remains a must-attend event for runners from near and far.” — Gabriel Fontaine-Leclerc, General Manager, Gestev

Historic Performances in the Beneva 42.2K powered by AWS

Sunday, dedicated to the 21.1K Shop Santé presented by WKND 91.9 and the Beneva 42.2K powered by AWS, featured historic marathon performances. In the men’s race, Quebec’s Jonathan Tedeschi won in 02:21:36, setting the fastest time in the event’s history. He surpassed the 02:23:05 record held since 2001 by Kenyan runner Joseph Maina. Guillaume Ruel, who finished second in 02:22:28, also ran faster than the historic 2001 mark.

In the women’s race, Caroline Pomerleau, a new mother, won the Beneva 42.2K powered by AWS in 02:42:48, setting a new record on the current course, in place since 2022. She finished more than eight minutes ahead of the second woman to cross the finish line. Confident of winning as she approached only the second marathon of her life, she concluded her race with a particularly touching moment, crossing the finish line with her daughter Charlène in her arms.

Quebec Road Championships in Quebec City

This year, the Beneva Quebec City Marathon presented by Brunet hosted the Quebec Road Championships for the 42.2 km distance as part of the Coupe Québec Route organized by Athlétisme Québec. With their respective victories, Jonathan Tedeschi and Caroline Pomerleau also earned the titles of Quebec men’s and women’s marathon champions.

An Experience from Start to Finish

Throughout the weekend, the courses, Place Jean-Béliveau, the finish site, the Family Zone, Expo Je Cours Qc and the entertainment areas allowed participants and visitors to experience the event far beyond the finish line.

“The Beneva Quebec City Marathon presented by Brunet is an iconic event that brings the city to life year after year. The beauty of the courses and the energy of the community create a unique atmosphere that brings together thousands of enthusiasts. This 27th edition once again highlighted the remarkable commitment of the runners, volunteers and teams mobilized on the ground. For 19 years now, Beneva has proudly supported the Marathon and contributed to its growth and visibility. At Beneva, we believe in the power of physical activity to support physical and mental health. Alongside Je Cours Qc, we are proud to support an event that inspires people to challenge themselves, encourages healthy lifestyles and contributes to the vitality of our communities. Congratulations to everyone who helped make this edition a success.” — Martin Robert, Executive Vice-President and Leader, Talent, Culture and Communications, Beneva
